Hey, Mocha Divas!
Welcome to the “weekend edition” of the blog. 🙂 Our normal posting day is Thursday; however, since we have a special holiday coming up, I thought I would switch it up a bit this week. Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching (duh!). Most people are making plans for dinner that evening. Actually, if you haven’t made dinner plans already, depending on where you live, it might be too late. If you aren’t too picky, then you should be fine. As our “dates” figure out where to take us for dinner, we can focus on what to wear to said dinner. As I have already mentioned here, I love sparkle and shine when it comes to clothing. It doesn’t take a special occasion or special venue for me to rock it. Why wait for a special occasion or venue? Remember, Mocha Divas is all about making the most of this current moment.
Before we get into the “look,” I have a true confession. I had planned to wear this dress on New Year’s Eve; however, our plans changed, and we didn’t end up going out. I still have to wear it somewhere, right? My husband and I don’t usually make a big deal of Valentine’s Day. Yes, we acknowledge the holiday, but we don’t usually go out to dinner at our normal spots. It’s always too crowded and those restaurants typically have prix fixe menus for the holiday that consist of something that at least one of us doesn’t agree with, so we just don’t bother anymore. Last year we actually ended up at a Five Guys burger joint! Insert gasps now. The year before, we posted up at the bar at Outback Steakhouse. It has now become our inside joke. Where in the world will our Valentine’s dinner adventures lead us?
Who knows where we will end up this year, but I know what I’m wearing. This dress from the Tracee Ellis Ross Collection at JCPenney is one of the most comfortable dresses that I own. I’ve been a fan of Tracee’s style since the “Girlfriends” days. “Joan” was my girl. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that “Joan” and Tracee’s styles were very similar. The style is bold, yet very chic. Tracee can pull off just about anything, in a seemingly effortless manner. I was super excited to hear that she was releasing a collection through a collaboration with JCPenney. I’m not a JCPenney shopper typically, but I knew that I would be visiting to purchase some pieces from her collection.
I bought several pieces from the collection when it was released online back in November. I could hardly wait for my package to be delivered. The pieces were EVERYTHING! When I unwrapped this sequin dress, I was blown away. It is of a great quality AND it’s cute. It’s also reversible – black and gold. For this look, I decided to mix the two colors. To get either or both colors, you just brush the sequins up or down. Simple. Let me say this, the dress is so comfortable. It’s not made to fit to the body. It actually fits more like a t-shirt dress.
I’m careful to minimize my accessories whenever I wear an article of clothing that has sequins. For this look, I am pairing one of my favorite watches. This Kate Spade watch has a bling band that gives it a little oomph. The watch is paired with a couple of Tiffany bracelets. Note: I love mixing metals. Dare to be different. A simple black stone pendant on a gold chain and stud earrings pair perfectly. These black heels (shooties) from Zara have an ankle tie that really makes the shoe pop.
What I Know for Sure
I don’t know where we will end up this year for dinner, but know that I will be sporting this dress. Don’t be surprised if you hear about a lady in a sequin dress at some fast casual spot. Remember that you read it here first.
Don’t mind me, I’m just out here living my best life NOW! It is my hope that you are too! I want to hear from you. How do you feel about sparkle and shine? Do you reserve only for special occasions?
